TONY Wellington has been officially declared Noosa's new mayor, but the composition of the council won't be formally known until the outcome of a challenge to the result for the sixth councillor is determined.
Mr Welllington's position was confirmed last night as was the challenge earlier mooted by Elaine Williams who trails Brian Stockwell by 10 votes for the last councillor position.
Incumbent councillors Frank Pardon, Frank Wilkie and Joe Jurisevic have been returned with Ingrid Jackson and Jess Glasgow also to form part of the new council team.
Ms William's request for a recount now rests with the Electoral Commission Queensland Commissioner Walter van der Merwe.
Returning Officer Colin Brown said today he could not partially declare the councillor result meaning there can be no start to the new council until the outcome of the challenge is known.
If granted it will require a full recount, complicated by the fact Noosa is a no division council.
Voters were required to just indicate the six candidates they preferred simply by a mark on the ballot paper.
Ms Williams said last night she did not want to be unreasonable or to cause unnecessary expense or disruption but felt there may be potential for a re-assessment of the result particularly given the high level of ballots declared informal.
