You wouldn't be alone if you thought the starting point for decorating your home was from visiting a designer, interiors or furniture store. But in reality, most of my most successful interior projects began with a visit to my local hardware store.
It's not just the obvious products, such as paint that you'll find at your local hardware store. Following is a list of some of my favourite items that have transformed my spaces - and all of these relatively inexpensive products were purchased at the hardware store.
Rust-proof spray paint to freshen up outdoor furniture.
New, on-trend gold tapware.
Stylish pendant light fittings.
Attractive, practical garden fencing.
New knobs to replace, passe kitchen cabinetry knobs.
Dove grey floor paint and paint rollers to transform stained floorboards.
Some of these relatively inexpensive purchases created more impact than expensive investments in furniture and furnishings.
For instance, I could not believe the dramatic difference painting dark and stained floorboards in a soft dove grey made. The entire house seemed to be lighter and fresher.
The point is, so much of what makes a house a home is the imagination and work you're prepared to put into it - and some practical purchases. Happy hardware shopping.
